This Catalogue presents descriptions of all the manuscripts we are aware of which contain English dated from c. 1060 to 1220. It presents data on the texts and scribes of these manuscripts; and, in the major case studies, exceptionally detailed research on the codicology, palaeography, and textual allegiances of particular codices. This catalogue can most fruitfully be used in conjunction with other catalogue resources: Neil Ker's Catalogue of Manuscripts Containing Anglo-Saxon; Helmut Gneuss's Handlist of Anglo-Saxon Manuscripts; Richard Gameson's Catalogue of Early Norman Manuscripts; Mildred Budny's Catalogue of Manuscripts Containing Art; and the Anglo-Saxon Manuscripts in Microfiche Facsimile volumes. We are very indebted to these excellent publications, all of which we have consulted in the work presented in our Catalogue.
We welcome corrections to our Catalogue, and any additions or expansions that colleagues might wish to suggest. The Catalogue is a dynamic publication that will be updated, as necessary, with any pertinent materials from users and from the continued research of Dr Orietta Da Rold, Dr Takako Kato and Professor Elaine Treharne.
